Cognitive Development

Children’s cognitive development is promoted through stimulating educational activities which require sorting, organizing, designing, counting, patterning, sequencing, and analytical thinking.  During group activities we practice number recognition, simple graphing, and mathematical concepts.

Children love learning about science & the natural world through guided experiments and hands-on activities!   We learn about plant growth, and have our own orange, lemon, loquat, and plum tree, as well as a children’s garden to tend and harvest.  In addition, throughout the day we learn about health, nutrition, and our bodies.

Self & Social Development

Children build their self-confidence as they are encouraged to be independent, make choices, and have opportunities to practice leadership skills.  They are taught to appreciate cultural diversity, learn empathy towards others, and develop social skills as they engage in imaginary play and interact in group activities.  Children are also introduced to the social sciences as they learn about family, friends, and community through fun guided lessons.

sandboxStimulating Sensory Play

Children absolutely love exploring the physical properties of different substances through sensory play.  We experiment with sand, water, play-dough, rice, finger-paint, bubbles, beans, goop, moon-sand, leaves, earth, confetti, etc.. Baking is also a great sensory activity.  We love to have fun!

Throughout the day, children have opportunities to develop their verbal skills, practice letter recognition, sound-letter correspondences, and increase their understandings concerning concepts of print. During circle time we practice phonics, read and discuss books, and learn vocabulary through stories, poems, and/or songs based on our current learning themes.

Open-ended visual art activities allow children to practice planning, organizing, implementing, and revising their ideas as they design original works of art.  Craft activities promote children’s cognitive abilities, as they learn to follow directions, complete patterns, and/or accomplish tasks in sequential order.  During music activities children learn musical concepts such as pitch, tempo, rhythm, beat, melody, etc. while singing, dancing, and/or playing musical instruments.
